How to Care for Tape-In Extensions Between Salon Visits

Sulfate-free, sodium-chloride-free shampoo is non-negotiable for tape-in longevity. Salt and heavy sulfates break down the adhesive bond prematurely, leading to slippage well before the recommended reapplication window.

Brushing should always start at the ends and work upward, using a loop brush designed for extensions to avoid pulling at the tape bonds. Clients should be advised to sleep with hair loosely braided or in a low ponytail to prevent matting at the root.

Oil-based products should be kept at least an inch away from the tape bonds themselves — while wonderful for mid-lengths and ends, oil near the root will loosen adhesive faster than almost any other factor.
